Al Geiger and Willie Hager, two Jacksonville Friends, spoke to 13- and 14-year olds attending the PeaceBuilders Camp at Koinonia Farm in Americus, Georgia on July 28. The days’ events centered around Article 18 of the UN Declaration of Human Rights, the Right to Freedom of Thought, Conscience, and Religion.

Al spoke about his beliefs and experiences as a conscientious objector during the Korean War and his relief work in Poland.

Marilyn McGinnis, of Peacebuilders Camp, writes:

He led us to consider that in any conflict, there’s a third option besides running away and fighting back.”

Willie, who is active with Veterans for Peace, led workshops on Truth in Recruiting. He spoke about the issues involved in military recruitment, and urged campers to make sure they are getting truthful information if they ever consider enlisting for military service.
