Quakerism 101

Large meeting of Friends
Are you brand new to Quakers and looking for an introduction to the basics of Quaker practice? Or have you been a Quaker for 45 or 50 years, but could use a refresher that reconnects you with what brought you to Quakers in the first place? Then you might want to attend this online Quakerism 101 offered by the SEYM Worship and Ministry Committee.

Several of you have said that you would love to be part of a Quakerism 101 discussion, but that hardly seems possible given our busy lives.  Fortunately, Friends Meeting of Washington (DC) has developed an online Q101 class that can be used by groups – and we have permission to draw from it.

This online Q101 course consists of five sessions, each an hour to an hour-and-a-half long, based on brief reading materials and videos.  For those who sign up, we will send you links to a video and one or two short readings ahead of time.  Each meeting will begin with silence, followed by the showing of a brief video, and then a few queries based on the materials to get the conversation started.   From there, we will open it up to worship sharing and conversation.

You are invited to attend as many of the five sessions as you like and can fit into your life.  If you can only be there for one session, that’s fine, too!  Please sign up. If you can be there for all five, that’s great!  We would love to have you be part of this either way.

All sessions will be held Saturday mornings from 10:30 am to noon. Come to one or attend all five.

Our course of study:

Session 1, September 26: Introducing Quaker Faith and Practice

Session 2, October 10: Quaker Worship and Vocal Ministry

Session 3, October 24: Living Your Quaker Testimony

Session 4, November 7: Quaker History

Session 5, date TBD: When Friends Get Down to Business

Hope to see you there!
